From Turners Station, Kentucky, USA:
My grandson, who has type 1 diabetes, suffers from painful bowel movements which he never had until he was diagnosed. He is a very poor eater now, whereas he was a good eater. Could this be because of his diabetes?
Type 1 diabetes in children does not directly cause bowel problems. However, he could be affected emotionally because of having diabetes, and this may be reflected in his poor eating habits.
One outside possibility is whether or not he has developed coeliac disease, a condition in which one develops a sensitivity to gluten in wheat. It is worth discussing this with your grandson's diabetes team.
