Question:

From New Orleans, Louisiana, USA:

I am 22 years old, I am 35 weeks pregnant, I have had type 1 diabetes for six years, and my husband has had it for 24 years. What is the chance that our son will inherit diabetes?

Answer:

The etiology of type 1 diabetes is multifactorial and thus unpredictable. Just because your husband and you have diabetes does not automatically mean that your offspring will develop diabetes.
