Question:

From New York, New York, USA:

How do I tell an eight to ten year old about diabetes?

Answer:

The most important thing is to provide accurate but simple explanations about diabetes. However, this is a big topic, and not one that can be answered in a paragraph or two. There are lots of great books about diabetes that may help you explain it to a child. One that I like very much is by Peter Chase, MD of the Barbara Davis Diabetes Center in Denver, Colorado. Also, it may help you to look at the American Diabetes Associationand the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation web-sites, as well as this one.
