From Lebanon, Pennsylvania, USA:
My six year old daughter who is very overweight also has ADHD. She does a lot of vomiting, and complains of her stomach hurting and also of her mouth being dry. She is very grouchy at times and then can be very nice to you the next. She seems to have times that she sweats and definitely is always excessive thirsty, going to the bathroom, and hungry even if we just got done eating. Both my grandmother, and my mother had/has diabetes.
I'm not sure if this is something that I should call the doctors about and have tests run, or if I should be concerned about.
You should return to your family doctor or pediatrician and ask these questions. Certainly some simple urine and blood testing would answer your questions to determine if there is any chance of diabetes. Most children who are overweight are either drinking or eating too much coupled with insufficient daily activity. Limiting television time, cutting back on obvious high sugar and high fat snacks, drinks and meals always will help. The physician who knows you and your child best can provide specific information and possibly referral to a pediatric based dietitian as well.
