Question:

From Mayfield, Kentucky, USA:

My grandson, who has type 1 diabetes, has trouble sleeping and going to sleep. He seldom ever gets eights hours of sleep per night, even when his blood sugar is in range. His body will jerk as if he has cramps or something. Do you know of any correlation between diabetes and ability to sleep, especially in a child so young?

Answer:

No. This sounds like normal myoclonic muscle spasms or normal muscle jerks and not disease.
