Question:

From Mumbai, Maharashtra, India:

My brother was just diagnosed with type 1 diabetes a week ago. Does having type 1 diabetes affect an individual's lifespan or any other aspect of life (e.g., body energy, ability to perform in school, intelligence, stamina, etc.)?

Answer:

How normal his life is going to be subsequently largely depends on how well he can keep his blood glucose close to normal values.
