Question: From Hill City, Kansas, USA:
What is Humulin-U? How does it work (i.e. long lasting, peak times, etc.)? This is an insulin I haven't heard of before.
Answer:
Humulin-U is better known as Ultralente and has been available for many years. It begins to act in 2-4 hours, has a maximum effect over 6-14 hours and is all gone in 18-20 hours: it is less used these days and has been largely replaced by Lantus (insulin glargine).
