From Kingston, New York, USA:
Can prednisone cause type 1 diabetes in a person who has no family history of diabetes?
Prednisone has the capacity to mobilise protein in the body to form glucose. Depending on the dose, this may just produce a temporary form of diabetes. However, over time and if insulin production is already stressed by any form of prediabetes, permanent insulin insufficiency can result, irrespective of a negative family history.
