Question:

From Daytona Beach, Florida, USA:

My 30 year old son, who has had type 1 diabetes since he was a year old, was diagnosed as being bipolar this last year, and his therapist suggested that there is a connection between diabetes and mental illness. Is this true? If so, where can I research it?

Answer:

I know of no sanctioned study that resulted in the finding that type 1 diabetes is the cause of mental illness.
