Question: From Atwater, California, USA:
My child had to sit out part of recess because of misbehavior, his blood sugar was over 260 mg/dl [14.4 mmol/L], and I don't know if the blood sugar could contribute to this. Does high blood sugar make him more likely to have discipline problems (inattention, difficulty focusing, etc.)?
Answer:
I've not seen any definitive paper, but many of my patients' families have noted this association. There is some scientific evidence for a blunting of attention when the glucose is high.
