Question:

From the United Kingdom:

Our four year old daughter was recently diagnosed with diabetes. During her evaluation and initial treatment, we spoke to a dietitian who said she can eat just about anything she wants which seems to me a bit absurd.

Answer:

Seeing a pediatric diabetes team would be a fantastic idea. The dietitian on the team should be able to work with you so that the meal plan is not restrictive, but incorporates her regular foods and eating style. We do not advocate eating "anything at any time" but moderation in her eating pattern.
