Question:

From Huntsville, Alabama, USA:

I have type 1 diabetes treated with a pump, and recently I injured my leg. The I.V. I had in my leg hurt so I took it out. After a day or so, I got swelling and a knot in my leg. I don't know if walking on it makes it worse, but I feel a little pain when I move my leg. How should I treat this?

Answer:

Your physician needs to see this and evaluate it. There is always the possibility that a clot formed at the site of the I.V. which may be a risk for a bigger clot forming in your leg.
