Question: From Pakistan:
I have heard about islet cell transplantation. Can you recommend this procedure for my daughter? What do I have to do? How much will it cost in the USA?
Answer:
I would not advise you to seek an islet cell transplant for your daughter now. In experienced hands, these can be extremely successful, but at the present time they involve a commitment to lifetime immunosuppression which is not considered safe for children.
