Question: From Portsmouth, Ohio, USA: I was adopted and just found birth family. I was told by my birth father that my grandparents have diabetes and heart disease. Am I at risk? Answer: I think it is probable that the family history of diabetes relates to Type 2 Diabetes. You would therefore have some additional risk of acquiring this yourself; but it would be greatly diminished if you took pains to maintain a normal weight for your height and got plenty of exercise.
