Question:

From Woodbridge, Virginia, USA:

Why is using a soothing epsom salts bath counterindicated for a diabetic? Also, is taking glucosamine chronditin harmful for a diabetic? Does it raise cholesterol since it is made from the shells of crabs, shrimp, etc?

Answer:

Foot soaks are NOT recommended for people with diabetes. It can open up the skin and make it easier to get an infection or a wound that is slow to heal.

As far as the glucosamine, it is good for the bones and, as far as I know, does not raise cholesterol.
