Question: From Kings Park, New York, USA: My sister was just diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. She has very high blood sugars and takes two shots of insulin a day. What is a way to keep her blood sugar normal besides her insulin? Answer: The best way is to take her to the nearest pediatric diabetes team experienced in dealing with children who have type 1 diabetes. They should be able to instruct her how to start an intensified insulin regimen aimed at the best metabolic control.
