Question:

From Hampton, New Brunswick, Canada:

My son with type 1 diabetes seems to catch one viral infection after another. His control is great. He has an A1c of 7.2 and he is otherwise healthy. Is there a connection between his diabetes and the viral infections?

Answer:

There is no connection. However, when someone has type 1 diabetes, any viral infection is more noticeable because of the effects upon blood glucose control.
