Question:

From Fort Bragg, North Carolina, USA:

I have had diabetes for 11 years. Recently, every time my blood sugar is high, I break out in hives. I was wondering if you had ever heard of this?

Answer:

The question is which comes first, the hives or the high blood sugar. Allergic reactions could also be an intermittent stressor that raises blood sugars. I would try to hunt down what causes the hives. Just having diabetes is not a reason to get the hives. Chronic antihistamine therapy may have to be used if this is frequent.
