Question:

From Los Angeles, California, USA:

My son has type 1 diabetes and is on an insulin pump. He plays on a high level baseball team. If he has a muscle strain, it seems like it takes a long time to heal. He strained his knee running and his elbow throwing the other month and it seems like it is taking a long time to heal. Does it take longer for a diabetic to heal from muscle pulls or tendonitis?

Answer:

In most cases, children with adequately controlled diabetes will not have a significantly longer healing time for minor injuries.
