Question:

From Italy:

Our son is very particular about his infusion site. Even though he changes from side to side on his belly, he always uses the same two spots. He has developed two lumps about 2 inches in diameter. Does this thickening impair insulin absorption or does it just give him a lumpy looking abdomen?

Answer:

It does both. If he prefers the abdomen, he can move the sites over some. Also, the upper hip area (as opposed to the buttock area) is usually well tolerated and has similar comfort as the abdomen, if you can get over the hurdle of having him use a different spot.
