Question:

From Texas, USA:

My niece has been losing weight drastically, 17 pounds over the last three to four weeks. Her urine was tested and it is high in protein and a very dark color. She is 13. What could this be?

Answer:

Your niece needs to have a comprehensive history and physical examination done at her pediatrician's office promptly to evaluate her for several disorders which could be responsible for her urine findings and weight loss.
