Question:

From Laredo, Texas, USA:

My 12-year-old daughter is 4 feet, 8 inches and weighs 138 pounds. Is this borderline diabetes?

Answer:

A review of your child's height and weight is best done as part of a routine history and physical examination done in your pediatrician's office. Children that are overweight are certainly at occasional increased risk for type 2 diabetes. I would suggest reviewing this with your pediatrician.
