Question:

From Jakarta,Indonesia:

Can pregnant women, women who are breast feeding and people with diabetes use beverages with the sweetener acesulfame potassium in combination with sucralose?

Answer:

I could not find any information about acesulfame potassium (Sunett) and pregnancy either through the FDA (Federal Drug Administration) or an online search of medical journals. There is some data regarding sucralose (Splenda) in animals that suggests it is safe in pregnancy. Sucralose is not digested and is recommended for use as a sweetener for people with diabetes by the FDA. These products may be unavoidable since they are used widely in baked goods and beverages.
