Kris Swenson, RN, CDE, DMTC Director of Clinical Services, is also owner of The Clinical Education Group, a diabetes program design consulting firm. With over twenty years experience in diabetes, Kris has designed integrated diabetes care and education programs for hospitals, home health agencies, and ambulatory facilities throughout the country and implemented highly successful programs in the Midwest and Southwest. The Casa Blanca Clinic Diabetes and Health Management Center which she designed and directed in Mesa, Arizona supports over 100 primary care physicians in the care of their patients with diabetes. Through a combination of systems improvements, targeted interventions, primary care team approaches, and case management, the program has demonstrated a 4% drop in glycosylated hemoglobin (the cardinal measure of diabetes control) and the elimination of hospitalizations for acute diabetes complications in the population served. The design of the Casa Blanca program serves as the basis of the DMTC's clinical services, where it draws professionals from throughout the world to learn about its implementation. Kris is in great demand as a speaker before both lay and professional audiences because of her unique combination of "in the trenches" realism and strong patient advocacy.
