Back to Ask the Diabetes Team Hypoglycemia - 2011

Hypoglycemia from 2011

  1. Can someone with type 1 see a drop in serum potassium level after an insulin injection? Would they suffer any organ damage from a persistent low in which they remain conscious? (8 Nov 2011)
  2. I experienced a low blood sugar within minutes of injecting Lantus. I consumed a granola bar and 130 grams of juice/soda, then breakfast. Could I have hit a vein? (23 Aug 2011)
  3. Is it common for someone to take a nap after experiencing hypoglycemia? During the nap, the blood sugar is in the normal range. (16 Aug 2011)
  4. Born with transient neonatal diabetes, my two-year-old no longer requires insulin. Today, her blood sugar was 1.2 mmol/L [22 mg/dl]. For a nondiabetic, is this still hypoglycemia? (31 Jul 2011)
  5. For the past several months, I have been experiencing hypoglycemic unawareness. Is this a form of neuropathy? If so, what is the cure? (15 May 2011)
  6. My son experiences episodes of hypoglycemia that persist for several hours despite treatments. He also gets hypoglycemic without exogenous insulin. Has this happened to others? (25 Apr 2011)
  7. After a car accident, my teen daughter had muscle aches, then nighttime lows, afternoon highs. The aches are gone, but her blood sugars remain uneven. Should I be concerned? (25 Apr 2011)
  8. Our son's bedtime target is 8.0 mmol/L [145 mg/dl], but he is often lower than that and not interested in eating to raise his blood sugar. What do you recommend we do? (14 Feb 2011)
  9. Recently, my son's s behavior becomes highly disruptive mid to late morning at preschool. Is it possible this is because his blood sugar is dropping precipitously? (11 Jan 2011)
  10. After four years with type 1, my six-year-old son has an A1c around 6. He experiences lows about three or four times a week. Are such lows intrinsically harmful? (5 Jan 2011)
