Summer Job Opportunity For College Student with Type 1 Diabetes
WANTED: A responsible young man (or two) to be camp cabin counselor/s for a 13 year-old boy with type 1 diabetes. This paid position would require the candidate/s to stay seven weeks at Camp Walt Whitman in Piermont, New Hampshire (June 23-August 11th, as well as a week of training prior to these dates). While Camp Walt Whitman is a wonderful, nurturing camp, it is not a diabetes camp. Therefore, the applicant/s must be well practiced and educated in diabetes management and (ideally) the use of an insulin pump. The counselor/s will assist our son in becoming independent with his diabetes management, while staying close at hand to ensure that he is making safe decisions regarding insulin dosing, exercise, and food choices.
The ideal applicant/s for the position must have completed at least one year of college to be eligible. Candidates should be exceptionally responsible and extremely reliable. The applicant must enjoy working with and around children, and commit to staying at the summer camp for the prearranged time.
