My name is Allison. In 1993 I was diagnosed with diabetes. We knew something was wrong because I started to lose weight very quickly and I was very tired. Once I started controlling my glucose numbers with insulin injections, I felt great and went back to my everyday activities.
The next summer I went to a week-long camp especially for diabetics. The doctors there taught me how to give my own insulin injections. I met many new friends and had a lot of fun. I'm planning to go back to camp this year. To me, diabetes is just a way of life.
I used to live near Marissa, but I moved away.
