Hi! My name is Katie. I am 10 1/2 years old. I have had diabetes since I was two years old. My mom and dad both have had diabetes for many years now. Dad about 25 years and mom 20 years. I have two sisters, Kelly age 19 and Mariann age 9. My sisters do not have diabetes.

In our house we all test our blood sugars four times a day and we are all on three injections each day. Our kitchen is like a mini pharmacy!

I am going into the fifth grade this year. I was accepted into Super Strings in Orchestra. I play the violin. I also like watching the Phoenix Suns when they are on TV. I like to read, roller blade, swim and ride my bike. I also have been bowling in a junior league for the past two years. I won first place for my division this year. My high game is 142!

I am going to Camp AZDA in Prescott, Arizona in June. This will be my fourth year going. I have learned many things at camp, but most of all I just have fun! I get to meet other kids like me who have diabetes. I would like to become a camp counselor when I am 16.

My parents let me sleep over at my friend Brittany's house because both her parents are RNs. Mom is OK with this because they know what to do if I go low. Also, I know how to do my own tests and do all my own injections.
