My name is Ashly. I am 9 years old. I have type 1 diabetes. I got diabetes in February, 1996. I was in the hospital for over a week and they taught me and my family about diabetes. We really didn't know what diabetes was, but now we have learned and are doing better every day. I don't like getting shots because they hurt, but I know I have to. My sister, Allesha, and my brother, Johnny, do my blood test sometimes to help me out. My favorite movie is "Little Women." I like music and singing songs, I LOVE Hanson (especially Taylor). I like to go roller skating, playing soccer and basketball. (And I'm trying danceline too!) I went to camp last summer and it was great! I met other kids with diabetes and learned new stuff from them. My doctor and nurses were there. We went boating, swimming, we did crafts, and we had a big dance that lasted until midnight. Next year I'll do the archery, hiking, baseball, and soccer. I had soooo much fun and I can't wait to go back this summer!!!! It is hard to have diabetes and I don't like it much but I know people who have a lot of health problems and it doesn't look fun so I will try my best to stay in control!
