My name is Allison. I am 8 years old. I'm in 3rd grade at St. Joseph's School. My sister Veronica goes to school there too, she's in 5th grade. I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in October 1997. My doctor said I was lucky because I was diagnosed early enough that I didn't get realy sick like some other kids she knows. This is because my mom noticed that I had to go to the bathroom a lot and I was always thirsty. I kept losing weight and I was always tired. So my mom brought me to my doctor and had me checked. That's when I was diagnosed which is like 2 months after we came back from a visit to the Philippines. I got very sick after we came back and my Dad thinks it may have caused my diabetes plus my mom has diabetes on her side of the family. I give myself 2 insulin shots a day. I also check my blood 4 times a day. My doctor said to stay healthy so I know how much insulin I get. You can e-mail me at avantovic@home.com.
