My name is Christopher Hill. I have Type 1 diabetes. I was diagnosed on December 5, 1996. I live in South Florida. I like soccer, fishing, boating and snorkeling. I have been using a MiniMed 507 pump for a year. I want to tell how I am getting along with my pump. With the pump I can eat more things with sugar and it is a great advantage. I even wear it when I am sleeping. I used to take 4 shots a day. Now all I have to do is insert a new needle in my stomach every day days. I still have to be carefull to count carbs. I can play sports and go swimming. This year I played baseball, flag footbal and now I am playing soccer. I disconnect the pump during practice and games.
My sister Danielle has been jealous that I have been getting all the attention. My mom is a nurse and she reads a lot of books on diabetes so she is good at knowing the dosage of insulin I need. My mom also has helped parents of children who just found out they have diabetes. I am very proud of her for helping them. We went to a neighbor's house last week and spoke to a very upset family who just found their 5 year old has diabetes.
I am 11 years old now and I am looking for a computer pal that I could write too so I could learn some more things about living with this disease. My email address is hilltim@bellsouth.net.
