Hi, my name is Ryan Thomas Gosney and I'm 18 months old. I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes 4 months ago after having flu-like symptoms for over a week. My blood sugar level was over 700 when I was admitted to the hospital. Because of my age and extremely high blood sugar, I had to be transferred to The Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia. I stayed in the pediatric intensive care unit for 3 days and then on the pediatric floor for another 3 days so the doctors could make me feel better. My Mom and Dad were very sad because I was so sick and they prayed a lot so I could get well. I am better now, but my Mom and Dad have to do special things to keep me well. They stick my fingers 5 times a day, give me insulin injections, and plan meals for me because I have to eat special foods and at certain times. My big brother Russ helps take care of me too.
Mom and Dad worry about him getting sick too. I love to play with him and watch Barney. My Mom and Dad would love to hear from other parents with children like me. Please write me a letter!
