Hi! My name is Mike McManus I am 14 years old. I was diagnosed with diabetes when I was 5 years old. I started racing quarter midget race cars when I was 8 years old. I raced them for 5 years. During my 5 year career in quarter midgets I won over 150 races. I have 5 Regional State Race Titles, and I am a 3 time Grand National Champion, 10 track record at varies tracks around the country.
I retired from quarter midget racing in 1998 at the age of 13 to pursue racing a full size V8 powered stock car, also known at the track as a D/A modified. As a rookie this year, I won my first race in only my fourth start at Mahoning Valley Speedway in Leighton, PA. I also run another track in Saint John, PA called Evergreen Speedpark. I won my first Heat race and finished second in the feature race, which was also my fourth race there. I am currently in 3rd place in the point standing at the track.
I plan on donating 50% of the money I earn from racing this year to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. To make people aware of the need to donate to the foundation, I have the JDF logo and phone number with the saying "RACING FOR A CURE" on my car. If you wish to follow the results of my racing you can find them at www.whowon.com.
