  Back to Kids' Voices Abbie
Hi, my name is Abbie and I am from Green Bay, Wisconsin. I am nine years old and have had diabetes since I was 2 1/2. I am in the fourth grade and I love school! My mom thought I was drinking a lot of water, way more than usual, so she took me to the doctor. They did a blood test and my level was 455. I was not sick, but I had to stay in the hospital for five days until my mom and dad learned how to give my shots and how much insulin to give me.

I can do my own shots now and I take three a day. I have been hearing a lot about the insulin pump and I might like to get one. My friend, who is 12, just got one last week.

I also went to Camp Needlepoint in Hudson, Wisconsin this summer for the first time. It was fun. I am going next summer, too.

I have a mom, dad, brother Alex (12), dog (Golden Retriever Sadie) and cat Pepper. I like soccer, gymnastics, swimming and diving, horseback riding, downhill skiing and playing with my friends. Also, I like to make crafts with my mom. My favorite colors are purple, blue and turquoise.

Abbie can be reached via e-mail at lnies40214@aol.com.
