My name is Samantha Jo. I am 15 months old and was diagnosed when I was 11 months old. Like a lot of mothers with toddlers, my mom knew something wasn't right when I was completely soaking through a diaper every hour. My mom had to keep calling the doctors because they all thought I was just teething. Finally after convincing an on call doctor, my mom and dad were able to take me to the emergency room to test me for a bladder infection. The ER doctor suspected diabetes and he was right. My blood sugar was 1429! After waiting a couple of hours I got to ride in the ambulace to Children's Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where I stayed for 3 days. Since coming home from the hospital we have had A LOT of highs and some lows. My mom or dad has to take my blood sugar 5-10 times a day and I receive 3 insulin shots every day. I am currently on Humalog and UltraLente. My mom, dad and I are searching for other people who are around the same age as I am to "chat" with. Our e-mail address is chrisabel@webtv.net.
