My name is Bliss Yester, I am 8 years old and I live on the island of Hawaii (a.k.a. The Big Island). I have lived here all my life. I found out I had diabetes when I was 7 years old. It all started when I was at the airport when we were going to give my grandma a lei. And then my mom's cell phone was ringing and she picked it up and the doctor said that I had diabetes, and my mom and I were shocked so much that we both started crying a little. I'll never forget that day, when I got home I was 20 at 424 and I was almost going in a coma.
Now I know a lot more about my health than most people know about themselves and that is a very good thing. I also am able to do everything that my friends can do. And since I live in Hawaii, there are lots of fun things to do. And I know 3 other people in my school that have diabetes too. Their names are Sharreen, Aiana and Kapuna. Also, don't forget that when your number is 20 don't do what I did (not eat candy) because I did not eat candy and my number kept on getting lower until my mom got home from the store and I was about to faint.
If you want a new pen pal from Hawaii, you can e-mail me at blissyester[@]hotmail.com and I would be happy to e-mail you back very soon. I hope to hear from you soon.
