  Back to Kids' Voices Jessica
Hi, my name is Jessica, and I am 5 1/2 years old. This picture is of me with my brother named Tyler, who will be 4 this month. I just found out that I have diabetes this week. Mom and Dad noticed that I was drinking a lot, and took me to the doctor. He sent me to the hospital, and I had to stay there for 3 days. I had a lot of friends and family who came to visit me, and everyone brought me great presents. I am very lucky to have a wonderful church family, and lots of people who were praying for me. We are home now, and I am glad to be back in my own home!!

I get my blood tested 4 times a day - which I really don't mind. I am on insulin, and I get two shots per day. I don't really like the shots - my Mom and Dad are still learning, and it hurts a little more than when the nurses did it. I am sure that they will get better, and someday I will learn how to give myself shots.

I am in kindergarten, and I love school. My teacher came to visit me in the hospital, and she brought me a book of pictures that everyone in the class made for me. My teacher's daughter has diabetes, so it is going to make going back to school a little easier! I miss school, and my friends and I can't wait to go back. I also like Barbie's, riding my bike, reading, swimming and playing on the computer. I have a dog, named Isabelle and I would really like a kitty some day.

I would really like to get email from other kids with diabetes. My family and I still have a lot to learn. Lets all pray that they find a cure in our lifetime! You can email me at apjr@att.net .
