Hi. My name is Sarah Ryan. I've had diabetes since grade 4 (1997) and now I am in grade 7. I found out that I had diabetes around the second day after New Years. I was out on vacation, and I went to the mall and my older brother has it to so he picked up on some of my symptoms! I really enjoy my life and I'm not even sure if I could enjoy it even more without diabetes! My brother and I handle it well!
We go to St. Johns in Newfoundland, Canada for our check ups. Usually they are very impressed, if not they lecture us! I really never in my life cheated on my diabetes only when it is matter of life and death! I'm not saying I'm perfect but I am saying that I take care of myself. I sometimes eat off timing but out hanging out with friends, what are you supposed to do -- watch them eat and think about eating? It is OK to eat out of time if you are going to get some exercise!
Well one day we woke up and dad yelled down for Shawn, my brother with diabetes, and he never woke up and dad just thought he was being lazy so he went down stairs to see what was going on and Shawn was laying down not budging. So he yelled up to me, which told me to get some food and the emergency needle! We never got him going so we had to get an ambulance! It was scary sitting down wondering what was going on! So that will tell you to eat what you doctor tells you to!
So I should be going, but if you have any question or just want to talk about something that it is no good to talk about with a friend that doesn't have diabetes, e-mail me. I am happy to receive stuff! I do write back!
