Hi. I'm Chanel. I'm 12 years old and live in Las Vegas, Nevada. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes on June 22, which is a month before my birthday. I went in for a normal sickness, a strep throat. Yes, I wet the bed at least a million times! My mom thought I was drinking too many fluids.
Anyway, I when we went into the doctor's office we saw a doctor named Dr. Cox. He took one look at me and said, "We need to do some tests for diabetes." I stayed at the doctor's office for five hours, then they transferred me directly to the hospital and I stayed there for ten days. I hated the hospital, but I met a lot of cool new friends.
When I got out of the hospital, I just met my nurse practitioner, Kathy Flynn. After that I met my diabetes specialist, Dr. Artmen. When my mom and I were at the Children's Hospital, Kathy decided to put me on the blood sugar kit and 44 units of insulin in the morning and 30 units at night. After that, my blood sugar was doing great. Kathy decided to take me off insulin and just put me on Glucophage 500 mg two times a day. That was working for a while, then my pancreas shut down again.
We recently went to see Kathy. She said that I needed to go back on insulin. I was happy. Before she put me back on insulin, I was scared to wake up with blood sugars that were 200, 300, or 400. My mom had to give me my shots the first times, but then I just felt like giving them to myself. My mom, two sisters, and my nephew were really proud of me.
On Memorial Day, my dog (a pug nose) had six puppies. They are really cute! They started walking and they opened their eyes two weeks ago. That's pretty much everything about me!
If you want a friend of pen pal, please feel free to e-mail me at Shanelle12@hotmail.com. I'll respond to you as soon as I can.
