Hi, my name is Stephanie. I'm 10 years old. I love to swim and play basketball. I like to wearing make up and mini skirts. I also like to
dance and sing.
Before I knew I had diabetes I had a lot of symptoms, like drinking a lot of water. I felt very lazy. I wouldn't eat anything and lost eight pounds in a week. I was having trouble breathing. My mom took me to the doctor and he found that I had large ketones. He told my Mom to take me to the hospital. When we got there they did a blood test. My blood sugar was 788. I was transfered by ambulance to a children's hospital where I stayed for a week then I got to go home.
It is now a year later and I am slowly getting used to the diabetes routine. I got an insulin pump last month and it has made a big difference for me. I have a lot more freedom with it and no more shots. I went to diabetes camp this year. I made a lot of new friends and had a great time. I pray every night that a cure will be found but in the meantime I am making the best of it.
