Back to Kids' Voices Jaime Lee

Photo Hi! My name is Jaime Lee. I am eight years old and was diagnosed with diabetes when I was three. I had all the classical symptoms. Urinating way too often, constantly thirsty, and I was also very irritable for "no reason". I have had diabetes for almost five years now. I really don't know anything different.

I don't let diabetes change my lifestyle in anyway, except for the constant poking and injecting. I do have a younger brother who is two and has bee diagnosed with the development of type 1 diabetes, but I don't have any friends my age who has it. I would love to receive some email from other kids my age. Maybe we could share some of our experiences. I am curious to know how much insulin other kids my age are receiving. I am currently on 13 units in the morning: 2 units of Humalog and 11 units of Humilin. In the evening I am only taking 7 units: 2 of Humalog and 5 of Humilin.

Some of my hobbies are singing, playing school, and dressing up. I look forward to making new friends "with diabetes". You can reach me by email at either krichard@mrtc.com or lisaasetters@aol.com.
