My name is Sammy Lou. I was diagnosed with diabetes on February 27, 2001. Like most of your parents, mine were shocked. I didn't have to go to the hospital though--yeah! I still get to play and do all the other fun stuff two year olds do. Mom just checks my blood sugar level a little more often. I tell people everywhere I go that I have diabetes and my pancreas doesn't work right. It makes my family laugh and it usually surprises everyone I say it to. Almost always they tell me that they know someone else that has it. On May 27, 2001 we took part in a "dash to cure diabetes." I had lots of fun.
