  Back to Kids' Voices Emma

Photo My name is Emma and I'm from Sonora, Mexico. I am 16 years old and I've been living with diabetes for 13 years now. Thank God it was not necessary go to the hospital when I was found with diabetes, my blood sugar was 191. My doctor said that I'm her first patient with diabetes that was diagnosed at his office instead of in the Emergency Room of the Hospital.

I began with mood changes, drinking a lot of water, eating too much, I started losing weight, having a lot of stomach pains. My pediatrician gave me a lot of antibiotics because he said there was an infection in the stomach, but the pain did not stop. My mom and dad went to the lab (per doctor instructions) to make more analysis, and that is how we found that I had diabetes. I have aninsulin pump. I have a little brother, he's 8. I'm in high school. I love reading and writting novels. When I get to college, I want to become a doctor.

Everyday I asked myself the famous question: "Why me?", I used to get very sad, depressed. But now years later, I ask myself a different question: "Why the hell not?" Life goes on.
