  Back to Kids' Voices David

My name is David. I was diagnosed 2/9/01 with type I diabetes, when I was 6 years old. When I went to school, my teacher sent me home with a note because I was going to the bathroom four times in one morning. When I went to the hospital, I had lots of fun. I got to play on a playstation. I got to drink little cans of diet pepsi. I got to choose my own menu, and I got to have a snack at 10:00 a.m.

I loved it when I got the pump because I get snacks and snacks are my favorite thing. I can eat whatever foods I want to (healthy foods) whenever I want to, and sometimes a treat like chocolate and candy. I eat just a little bit. When I got the pump, my mom was really happy because when we had shots, my blood sugar would go crazy. But when we got the pump, we did much better.

Now I am 7 years old, and when I am at school, the people who are in the office can help me with the pump. When there is a birthday treat or special snack, the people in the office know how much insulin I need, and I push the buttons myself.

In this picture, you can see me when it is Easter in 2002 and I am petting my aunt's dog named Hershey. I like to play soccer and I play the piano and also I like to collect stamps from all over the world. You can write to me if you like, at my mom's email address: linda.terner [@] verizon.com.
