Hi my name is Jacob. I am 7 years old and will be going into second grade. I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on November 11, 2001. My mommy and daddy noticed that I was drinking a lot and going to the bathroom a lot and wetting my bed. My nanny was the one that brought it to my mommy's attention that it sounded like diabetes because she has type 2 diabetes. My nanny checked my blood sugar and it was 586. My mommy and daddy and big brother were all scared. They took me to the emergency room and I had a lot of tests done and they told my mommy I has diabetes and I was in the hospital for 4 days. My mommy and daddy had to learn to do my shots. I get 2 shots a day, and sometimes 3. I'm doing fine. My blood sugar sometimes run a little high. and some times to low, but I know when I feel too low and I tell mommy, daddy and brother. I know how to check my blood sugar and do my own shots, but my mommy is there to supervise. Jacob and his family receive e-mail at arn343[@]aol.com. Published July 13, 2002
