Hi, my name is Kerry Thorpe and I was diagnosed with diabetes when I was 11. I have had it for almost a year, but I have been finding it very hard to cope because I loved sweets and fizzy drinks. I am allowed them, but in small amounts and I have to have diet drinks.
I'm getting used to it but it was very hard to deal with at the beginning. I have to check my blood sugar twice a day and have injections twice a day, I was diagnosed on the November 12th. I went into hospital because I couldn't move. The doctors at the hospital thought I had arthritis. I already had Cystic Fibrosis, which is a problem in my lungs, and they gave me a blood test and found sugar in my blood. They continued taking lots of tests until they declared that I did have diabetes.
I was very upset because I already had so many things wrong. I was crying for ages. I ended up in hospital for 2 weeks because they were looking into both things. Eventually they said I got diabetes because of my Cystic Fibrosis. I am getting on fine now but I don't like doing my finger pricking!
