My name is Hannah and I am nine years old. I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes two weeks before my seventh birthday. I am in the third grade and I like to read, play with my friends and play the violin. I have played the violin for 5 years. I use an Animas insulin pump. It makes me annoyed sometimes when it beeps at me during class, but I like it much better than taking 5 shots a day. I named my pump "Lil", after my favorite book "Lily's Purple Plastic Purse". My Mom says "Lil" is my plastic pancreas.
My family helps me every day to take good care of my diabetes. They help me to count carbs and help me to remember to bolus after I eat. Also my Uncle Jeff, has had type 1 diabetes since he was nine years old and he helps me not to feel like I am the only person who Diabetes. Our Family has a Walk team for the JDRF "walk for a cure" our walk team's name is HANNAH'S HOPE, because I hope that a cure for Diabetes will be found soon and no other little child will have to have diabetes.
I would like to talk to other kids with Diabetes. You can write to me at my mom's email --
