Hi! I'm Zachary. I live in Dallas, Texas. I'm 13 years old. I love most music. I have played violin for 5 and 1/2 years. I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in October 2003. I do insulin injections. I am getting a pump this summer. Taking insulin isn't too bad!
I didn't get diagnosed by being taken to a hospital! I was just going to a doctor to get a vaccination shot. I am also going to a boarding school next year so I got a physical too. I had also been drinking about two gallons of water every day, so my mom mentioned it to the doctor. The doctor said that it sounded like I had diabetes. They did a blood draw and sent it to a lab. The doctor said that we would get the results the next day. I was really nervous the next day at school. My mom is the head master of my school. She also is the upper school teacher so I am in her class. She got a phone call from the doctor and she said it was diabetes. My three month average blood sugar was in the 300s. I was pretty nervous at first. It turned out not to be so bad at all. Fun if anything, and interesting.
My dad gets a newsletter from a doctor in California every month. He had just found out that this doctor specialized in diabetes. This doctor was mostly into treating type 2 diabetes but he does type 1 too. He treats diabetes with with nutrition. We went out to California to see that doctor less than a week later! We learned a ton about nutrition. We found out how important taking vitamins was for a diabetic. We found out that our diet was already very similar to the doctor in California. I hate taking vitamins but it's still so important for diabetics.
We have always tried to eat as healthy as we could. We have never bought sodas. Now I take over 45 vitamins a day! I have become way healthier and a lot stronger. I have only been sick two times in my whole life! You should take a lot of vitamins to stay healthy!
I love to get email. My email address is
