  Back to Kids' Voices Spencer

Spencer is seven years old and has been a Type 1 Diabetic since he was 5.

We are currently considering getting an insulin pump for him since we added up how many shots he's had in a little under 2 years - over 1100! We are running out of areas to inject him, and he is very tired of having to get poked all the time.

We would love to hear from parents of other diabetic children and also opinions from those who have switched to an insulin pump.

Spencer loves his computer and playing games on it. He also creates his own games and writes music, too. He enjoys first grade and playing with his friends! He would love to hear from other diabetic children and perhaps find a penpal! Our email address is justine[@]firehousemail.com.

As hard as it is sometimes for all of us, the fact is -- the more time goes by, the easier it gets, and the more we can learn, the more control we have over this disease. We struggle to keep his life as "normal" as possible, even on the days when, inside, we feel overcome by it.

I tell him he won't be diabetic by the time he's 20. I pray that I'm right.
