Hi guys! My name is Kristina. I am 13 and am going to be 14 in September 2004. I am in eighth grade. I have had diabetes for two years or since the beginning of sixth grade. After having diabetes for a year, I got the Deltec Cozmo insulin pump. Before the pump, I was taking about 9 shots a day. Diabetes does not run on my mom's side of the family, and we do not know about my dad's side, because he was adopted.
When I was diagnosed, it was right after the beginning of sixth grade. I was feeling really weird. I was tired, thirsty going to the bathroom a lot, and I could barely breathe. My mom kept letting me stay home from school. Then on the following Monday, I was ready to go to school! I was walking to my bus stop, when all of the sudden I got a sharp pain in my stomach. I was crying. I called my mom at work and she and my dad took me to the children's hospital. Right away the doctors gave me insulin and started telling my about what I would have to do if I wanted to live a healthy life.
Well here I am two years later. I couldn't be doing any better. I have my pump which I love, and my very loving family.
